My name is Jennifer Douglas (@jendouglas105), and I am 38 years old. I live in New York, and I am a Beachbody coach and health and mindset mentor. After hitting my heaviest at 315 pounds, I decided to follow Beachbody’s 2B Mindset nutrition program and do the workouts. Together, they helped me lose and keep off more than 100 pounds.

I had always struggled with weight loss since I was a child. I was considered medically obese for as long as I can remember, all the way back to elementary school.

I had always been motivated to lose weight. I tried countless diets, weight-loss programs, nutritionists, doctors…you name it, I’ve tried it without long-term success. Everything was either a quick fix for a short period of time and not sustainable, or just didn’t work. At 28, my weight hit 315 pounds.

After having my son in October 2016, I vowed to him that I wouldn’t stop, and promised that his mommy would lose weight once and for all.

After I had my son, I was a 32-year-old wife, mom, and thyroid cancer survivor. But I was tired and depressed all the time, and honestly hated life. I was miserable in my body.

Then a friend of mine messaged me when I started thinking about weight-loss surgery and told me not to do it yet—to try one more thing because it’s guaranteed to be the last nutrition program I will ever have to do, and that it worked.

That program was Beachbody’s 2B Mindset.

The program focuses on teaching you what and how to eat in any life situation. There are various packages, but they generally include various books, a nutrition program, access to on demand workouts, and more.

When I purchased the program, I went all in. I had always been the type of person who worked out in the gym for hours but never saw results. So when the program stated that exercise was optional and considered extra credit, I decided not to exercise for the first few months to see if the program really worked. I focused on nutrition solely, and immediately started seeing results.

What I love about the program is that it changed my mindset around food. I learned to listen to my body and fuel it with the foods it needs. I learned how to read nutrition labels, and above all, I became a master of my own body by learning exactly what foods work and don’t work for my body.

Here’s what I eat in a day.

  • Breakfast: Protein oats with fruit and a drizzle of nut butter, or two eggs, toast with ghee, and fruit
  • Lunch: Salad with grilled chicken and dressing, and air-popped popcorn
  • Snacks: Two percent Greek yogurt with frozen mixed berries, almonds, shredded, unsweetened coconut flakes, and a drizzle of real maple syrup
  • Dinner: Big Mac salad, bell pepper nachos, or cloud bread pizza with a salad
  • Dessert: Dark chocolate or protein pudding

I started working out with Beachbody about three months after I started doing 2B Mindset.

Since then, I have consistently worked out with Beachbody for over four years now. Typically, I work out six days a week for 30 minutes a day. My favorite type of workout is weightlifting.

These three changes have led to my weight loss being a success.

    1. I dove into personal development. Personal development is one of the most important things to do when on a health and fitness journey. This journey is not meant to be easy. It will be hard, and there will be tons of ups and downs, frustrations, and desires to quit along the way. Without consistently working on personal development and your mindset daily, you will fail.
    2. I immersed myself in the community. This journey is hard enough, and you shouldn’t have to do it alone. The community, support, and motivation of seeing others on the same journey will drive you to keep going and not stop.
    3. I shared my journey with others. Don’t be afraid to share your journey, especially the downs along the way. It makes you human and shows others who are on the same journey that it is normal to have those good and bad days, and that you’re not perfect.

Over the course of five years, I have lost and kept off 137 pounds.

To other women looking to start a weight loss journey: Stop trying the quick fixes! I tried and wasted so much time and money on so many different things hoping to lose 100 pounds in a few months. It’s not realistic. And if someone has done that, chances are they didn’t do it in a sustainable and healthy way. When it comes to this journey, keep in mind that this is a lifestyle and a journey.

I’m not perfect, and I do have days where I dive into a jar of peanut butter or have a slice of cheesecake or pizza—but those aren’t a daily thing for me anymore. I know what my body needs. I move my body daily, and that consistency with those occasional treats is where it’s at.
