Jimmy Kimmel Live! pulled by ABC over host’s Charlie Kirk comments

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show has been pulled off the air “indefinitely” after the host’s comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

ABC confirmed the move after Kimmel said earlier in the week that the “MAGA gang” was trying to “score political points” from the fatal shooting of Kirk, per Deadline.

President Donald Trump, who has shared his contempt for Kimmel in the past, celebrated the show’s suspension, calling it “Great News for America” in a Truth Social post and urging comedians Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers to be ousted next.

Hours before the decision was made public, the Trump-appointed chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, called Kimmel’s words “truly sick.”

Carr went on to say that his agency could hold ABC, Disney, and Jimmy Kimmel accountable for the comments. He said the comic appeared to be making an intentional effort to mislead the public into believing that Kirk’s assassin was a Trump supporter.

Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old man suspected of killing Kirk, was officially charged with aggravated murder and six other counts at an initial hearing on Tuesday. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Trump and Vice President JD Vance will speak at Kirk’s memorial service in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday.

What did Jimmy Kimmel say that resulted in his show being yanked off air?

Network ABC revealed that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would not be broadcast “indefinitely” after the host made controversial implications about the identity of Tyler Robinson, the suspected gunman behind the killing of the conservative activist.

Jacob Stolworthy explains why what Kimmel said landed him in hot water.

COMMENT: Cancelling Jimmy Kimmel reveals the crude truth about Trump’s definition of free speech

Nothing reveals Donald Trump’s double standards on free speech more emphatically than the way the Jimmy Kimmel TV show in America has been taken off air.

Talk show host Kimmel was dropped after accusing the “MAGA gang of trying to score political points” off the murder of Charlie Kirk and mocking Trump’s reaction to it as “how a four-year-old mourns the death of a goldfish”. You can question Kimmel’s sense of taste, but you would expect a champion of free speech to leap to his defence.

Trump has done the opposite and even took time out during his state visit to Britain to post his approval of Kimmel’s silencing on his Truth Social social media outlet.

No one has ever accused Trump of having a sense of irony. But you would like to think that he paused for just a moment to consider the inconsistency of praising the virtues of free speech in his Windsor Castle banquet speech, and shortly afterwards, celebrating the demise of someone for exercising that supposed cherished freedom.

Piers Morgan accuses Jimmy Kimmel in relishing when other celebrities have been canceled

Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers,” the Talk TV host wrote.

Charlie Kirk prayer vigil denied permit in Tennessee city

A planned Charlie Kirk prayer vigil in the Tennessee city of Morristown will not go ahead because supporters were denied the proper permits.

The application was denied because of a city ordinance that denies the use of public spaces for “political or religious” purposes.

First Liberty Institute is representing Kirk’s supporters in the town as they implore officials to reconsider the decision or face litigation.

“The City’s blanket ban on religious activity abridges both his (I) freedom of speech and (II) the free exercise of his religion,” a letter to Morristown’s mayor, assistant city manager, and city attorney read, according to The Washington Times.

Netanyahu forced to deny Israel was behind Charlie Kirk assassination after ‘monstrous lie’

One of the more bizarre theories being pushed on social media in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death has seen Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu being forced to deny any Israeli involvement.

“Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister, said that the bigger the lie, the faster it will spread,” Netanyahu said in a video on X.

“Somebody has fabricated a monstrous big lie, that Israel had something to do with Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder.”

“This is insane, it is false, it is outrageous. Charlie Kirk was a giant, a once-in-a-century talent who defended freedom, defended America, defended our common Judeo-Christian civilization.

“Charlie loved Israel, he loved the Jewish people, he told me so in a letter that he sent me just a few months ago.”

Trump’s education secretary Linda McMahon condemns ‘vocal fringe’ celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death

“Alarmingly, many of these advocates of political violence are teachers, professors and administrators. Make no mistake, ideological capture can lead to political violence by demonizing people with dissenting views,” McMahon said.

The former WWE CEO authorities must move quickly to “condemn” those who have “crossed the ethical line.”

McMahon then echoed former President George W. Bush’s words after 9/11 in saying that Americans should not “stay at home.”

“Charlie is no longer with us to lead this charge. It now falls to all of us to carry it forward,” McMahon added.
